THE POLAR WORD OF BEGINNING

Like always before Easter
words were taken down from the walls:
carpets, icons, our marriage picture and the flask.

’’Everything has to be limewashed’’,
howled the white rectangle where the carpet had been.
’’Somebody has to limewash everything’’
answered the other rectangle too, where the picture had been.
’’Limewashing has to be everywhere’’
whispered in a sigh the coolness of the icon, too.

Then limewashing house painter came in
holding the lime brush in his right hand
and the moon sickle in his left hand:
’’Limewash your echoes’’ he told me.
’’Time is against us and it will take an eternity
to me to limewash the shadow
of the polar word of beginning.

White-Orchid

THE ORCHID English Translation

“Who are you
advice to give to me
for my good fortune?”
the orchid asked me at dusk
once trying to write
with her first flower bud,
to all worlds
a rare and undaring poem.

“I am the only one who loved
the most beautiful girl,
from the first
to the last kiss.”
(heaven’s my witness
’cause he trespasses my feelings)

…and then
my sigh silent remained.

With slightly open lips,
like in the first kiss,
bearing her name the orchid
had already bloomed.

Adam and Eve

ADAMIC English Translation

When I caress
the hair of your night I think
that I can feel first Adam’s thrill
when apple had primarily bloomed
its whole full moon.

When I caress
your hair this night rivering down
I think,
I can still feel the thrill,
of the first kiss
which was about to bloom.

How come he did not dare?

Would it not be that
the full moon on branches snowing down
for them confession’s making?
Adam her hair is caressing;
as frightened as we were
by the light of temptation.
Little was left and both of us
like apple
had bloomed
the whole full moon
from their unique first kiss.

IT’S NOT THE TIME YET… English Translation

“What would skylark
want to say
that she fell thunderstruck?”
asked the sunflower –
John, the beloved disciple.

Air is burning
that is why even the wheat ears
because of the fire
bent their waxied tops.
No road and not even a path
jump
from the wheatfield to the mill.
Disciples keep quiet.
So does Jesus.

John asks again:
“What would skylark
want to say?
What did she say…”
The Master
is calming down His throbbing heart
of the unspoken prophecy
about wounded poppies.
With His hand He blesses
the prostrated wheat.
Turned towards John,
He tells almost whispering:
(How dare one say loudly?)
“It’s not the time yet.
The hour has not come!”

AT THE CUSTOMS English Translation

’’I am the citizen
of the saddest twilight…’’

’’And what do you declare
to have in your suitcase?’’

’’Old clothes
to change my garb.’’

’’In the passport
the picture is with closed eyes.’’

’’Right you are, I was also dead
while being in need
of a deep silence.’’

’’And for the visa
a round, pressed flower?
Sir,

please be serious,
what do you have to declare?’’

’’Nothing.

I am the citizen
of the saddest twilight,
and for the funeral carriage
I thank you a lot!’’

ON THE WAY TO EGYPT

While falling in a doze going to Egypt down,
As if from sky he were struck,
Old Joseph a scream set up:
“Mary, the crown!
The Magi’s Emperor’s crown,
which they had brought into that box
that they had sculptured like a chest
and which up there I forgot in a great haste.”

Mary no answer gave.
While looking to the furthermost…
And like a hesitation, her dropped out tears
were falling down from her bright eyes,
the pain of her unuttered thought.
She closely pressed young Jesus in her arms
giving a kiss to Him high on His forehead,
right there where one day He’ll bear
His crown all made of thorns.
